NO DURIANS! -And look at the fines!

Who described them as tasting like hot garbage? They certainly smell like it.

Geek Out!

She's one hell of a big b*tch. Super cool to see it fly - also nice to see that at least the 'dark period' in my life at very minimum had some tangible results. The most shocking thing is how quiet it was even at a full throttle, high angle departure. I'll have some more photos on flickr soon... Sadly they wouldn't let us on board as it was full of flight test equipment - oh well, I'll just have to buy a ticket to Sydney.

Did get to check out quite a few installations of Korry product on various aircraft and that was cool - and also nice to see that final product does look professional.

Let's see what else - got a sunburn, saw a bunch of really cool technology, almost bought a large model airplane then thought better of it as I have no good way to get that home - oh yeah and I sweated my you-know-whats off standing on a tarmac watching acrobatics and flyovers for two hours - good times

OK, it's Friday evening, time for beer!

Leaving Singapore while in Singapore

Dave and I have yet to take an adventure outside of Singapore (plans are in the works, simply needed to settle in, first). Not that our free time hasn't been chalkfull of new sights, crazy foods, and sore feet...but I was beginning to wonder if Singapore offered something deeper then sterile streets and huge, brand-name shopping malls. Come to find out, it does. Well sort of.

The MacRitchie Reservoir: located smack-dab in the center of the city, MacRitchie felt like a touch of Greenlake, albeit significantly larger, tropical, and teeming with monkeys. Yes, that's right. Miles and miles of trails to explore amid lush tropical foliage, around a number of large reservoirs. Even kayaking. With loads of monkeys running about. Until Saturday, I believed that I liked them. In fact, as a child I always dreamed of owning a teacup monkey. In reality, I've discovered the scare the heck out of me. It's the same way i feel about birds. Unpredictable, hyper, potential for aggression. Fear of monkeys aside...its quite bizarre to encounter them outside a zoo. And it was great to feel a bit of non-commercialized, northwest home. We'll definitely go back.

Little India:
while I have yet to travel to India, I truly believe that Little India in Singapore offers a real snapshot of it. I like it and I do not. It's refreshing to see an authentic, grittier side to the city, where the culture is tangible. And, where you feel a bit out of your element and comfort zone. You're surrounded by Indian foods, spices, and loads of people. And...the gotta see it to believe it - Mustafa 24-hour Shopping Center. Seven stories of anything you could possibly want, at low prices. It is overwhelming to say the least, but definitely a one-stop-shop. Not a place to go on Sundays. Definitely an experience.

Another day in paradise

Day # ? don't know, don't really care, island time! Been spending some quality time in our 'private pool' that no one in the condo seems to use - also elicits some weird stares from people on the street like it's totally insane to be swimming - why have a pool if you're not going to use it?

Spent a good couple hours today at the Sim Lim super computer store complex, 6 stories and 390,000 square feet of jam packed super geeky techy fun, bought myself a nice wide screen monitor for a decent price and now my home away from home office is nearly complete.

Time for food and beer - happy made up holiday to y'all!

First week

So welcome to the 21st century I guess - and here we are blogging from Singapore. Bizarre.

The plan is to get this thing up and running with some pictures, bizarro experiences, and details of our travel exploits. With any luck we'll keep this thing relatively up to date.

First week recap:
Jet lag was substantial and even today I had to take a short nap - it's a rough life. Kyrsa did an awesome job selecting a flat, it's pretty new, very clean, bright and centrally located between the crazy shopping of Orchard road and the insanity of Little India. Singapore is very much Asia lite - compared to Bangkok or even the major cities of Japan, it's so western we might as well be in America, with one major exception - food. They don't lie when they say all is available and all is good here (especially the pig intestine soup) - and it's cheap.

Ok, that's all I can stomach at the moment. Much prosperity to you in the Year of the Rat.
